FrameNet is a global research effort, initiated by Charles J. Fillmore at the International Computer Sciences Institute, in Berkeley. Its main goal is to build lexical resources in which the meanings of the words are defined against the scenes (or frames) they evoke. There are framenets being developed for English, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Swedish, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, among others.
